Featuring 650 full-sized pocket springs, the Eve hybrid aims to give the comfort of a good pocket spring mattress and the contouring moulding effect of a foam mattress. With average Amazon reviews of 4.5, it is one of the highest-scoring in its category. At the price, it is a very affordable option. Designed and manufactured in the UK, like all of its offerings the Eve hybrid is delivered in a small box which the mattress is vacuum packed inside.

We have put this mattress to the test to see if it lives up to the high standards set by the other mattresses in the Eve sleep range.

Construction and Materials

The Eve hybrid model is a relatively simple but effective design composed of a memory foam layer followed by a pocket spring layer that is further encased in foam. We have broken down each layer of the mattress and considered its effects on the mattress.

To start with, the cover of the Eve hybrid mattress is made from a polyester and elastane mix (98% and 2% respectively). This is designed with a moisture removing technology which stops you from getting too warm and sweaty during the night. The cover can easily be removed by zipping it off and machine washed at 40 degrees.

1. Evecomfort® Foam Layer

The first layer below the cover is the comfort foam layer. This is designed to help keep the spine aligned while also providing a softer comfortable surface to sleep on that contours to your body. In addition to this, Eve sleep claims that this layer of foam is 30 times more breathable than traditional foam layers.

2. Foam Casing Layer

Next, the pocket springs within this mattress are encased in a pocket spring layer. This is designed to increase the amount of support the mattress gives while also providing extra edge support. This gives you more sleeping area on the mattress and helps avoid feeling as though you are going to fall off the mattress.

3. Pocket Spring Layer

Under this is the pocket spring layer. This is 650 full-sized springs (9cm), unlike other mattresses that come in a box which often have much smaller springs. These are designed to support your hips and shoulders more and ease pressure points to help you sleep better throughout the night. The design of this mattress aims to suit all types of sleepers.

4. Second Foam Casing Layer

Below the pocket springs is another layer of foam casing. This provides the whole mattress with a firm foundation on which the above layers can rest on. This also prevents the springs from being damaged via direct contact with your base.

It is also useful to know that all foam used in the production is CertiPUR certified and the cover is Oekotex certified. These are both independent testing boards which test the mattress to confirm that there are no potentially harmful chemicals within the mattress.

Comfort, Support and Sleep Quality

We have rated this mattress a 6.5/10 in firmness. This is very similar to most of the Eve range which is the goal of the company. This medium-firm rating provides enough support for all sleeping positions while being comfortable for a large range of weights. The mattress also features a zoned system for the pocket springs, this results in more support for your shoulders and hips which provides a great amount of support and relief.

The memory foam within the mattress provides a nice amount of contouring to the body. This alongside the zoned support allows for sleeping comfortably on your side. The shoulders will feel cushioned along with the hips having plenty of support allowing you to maintain healthy spine alignment.

We feel that this mattress is well balanced and will suit most types of sleepers very well. Back and Front sleepers will find that the mattress provides enough support for their body while maintaining healthy spine alignment.

The combination of materials used in this mattress does mean that you will not fully sink into the mattress. This will suit if you tend to be a combination sleeper, changing positions as you sleep. The bounce and support this mattress gives will make moving around the mattress much easier and will not leave you feeling stuck or that you have sunk too far into the mattress. If you are looking for something you can sink into more, then a mattress that is closer to a medium is likely to suit you better.

If you tend to sleep warm and become uncomfortable because of it during the night the Eve Hybrid could be a great choice. We had no problems with overheating and due to the breathable foam (Eve sleep claims it is 30 times more breathable than traditional foam!) and the general construction of the mattress result in increased airflow. Eliminating any overheating issues.

If you sleep with a partner then you will not have to worry about being disturbed by their movements. The foam top layer eliminates motion transfer across the mattress and despite the pocket spring layer, we found that it does a very good job at isolating movement.

Trial and Guarantee

Like most of the Eve sleep range, the Eve hybrid comes with a 200-night trial. This is double the industry average of 100. This will give you more than enough time to decide on whether or not you like the mattress enough to keep. In addition to this, Eve sleep comes with a 10-year warranty covering any manufacturing defects. This gives you the peace of mind in that if the mattress does not last then you can get it replaced with a new one. If you do decide that the mattress is not for you then Eve sleep will collect it back from you. Straight out of your bedroom for free.

Delivery is also made easy with Eve sleep. They offer flexible delivering slots so you can choose a time to suit you. Once delivered the mattress is easily placed where you need it because the mattress is in a small box. Our Verdict

We believe that the Eve Hybrid matches the high standards of the previous Eve products. The balance of foam and pocket springs give its desired effects.

Despite the pocket springs being full-sized within this mattress, there are only 650 of them. This is a reduced amount compared to the average you would find in a standard hybrid mattress. Though this is a lower amount than we would like to have it they still do the job very well and provide a great balance of pressure relief and comfort within the mattress.

We feel this mattress suits most types of sleepers as it provides a great level of support while not contouring to the body too much and leaving you with a sinking/stuck feeling found with softer foam mattresses.

Eve states that their mattress can be placed on any surface and still be comfortable but we would always advise putting your mattress on a mattress base or frame that is built for that purpose.

Overall the mattress will suit most types of sleepers and the generous trial period will give you plenty of time to decide on whether or not it suits you. To be able to buy a double mattress of this quality for under £500 is a great value choice!
