At the forefront of innovative sleep technology, Simba has continued to expand its product range rapidly. This includes a mattress topper, bedding and also this pillow.

The pillow has some extremely interesting features. A hybrid pillow is something rarely seen. Construction and Materials

The design and colour scheme of the Simba Hybrid pillow makes it stand out. The cover is a stylish white with both grey and blue stripes. The blue stripe indicates the inclusion of Simba’s Stratos technology is inside the pillow. .The pillow is 45x65cm and will fit into a standard size pillowcase.

Developed for all sleeping positions, the foam layers are combined to give a medium feel. In doing this Simba have designed the pillow to suit the widest range of sleepers possible. Enabling the height of the pillow to be adjusted also expands this further.

All of the materials used in the Simba Hybrid pillow is made from recycled products, certified by the Global Recycling Standard. This, along with the pillow being vegan friendly, is a very interesting ethical aspect of this pillow that can be easily missed.

Layers

1. Stratos Cover Layer

The Simba Hybrid pillow features a visually impressive cover. Thankfully it is not just the visuals that are worth talking about. Going around the middle of the pillow there is a mesh ventilation strip. Helping increase the airflow in and out of the pillow. The top half features the phase of changing Stratos technology. This absorbs excess body heat if you get too warm or warms you up if you get too cold as you sleep. The bottom half of the cover is made from 100% cotton. This is sourced sustainably and adds to the breathability of the pillow. The full cover is removable and can be machine washed. Especially handy for keeping the pillow fresh and hygienic. Though it is still recommended to use a pillowcase with this pillow.

2. Aerelle Top Layer

Directly under the cover is the Aerelle top layer. This helps keep the mattress cool while also being extremely soft. It is a hypoallergenic fibre which increases the breathability of the pillow. Preventing overheating as you sleep.

3. Open-Cell Memory Foam Layer

The middle layer is probably the most interesting of this pillow. It is made up of lots of nanotubes. Made from visco-elastic memory foam. These are similar to traditional memory foam and contour and mould around the head. The nanotubes can be added or removed from the pillow so you can find the optimal height that suits you best. The more nanotubes that are added also increases the firmness of the pillow. This helps it suit side and back sleepers better.

The use of nanotubes instead of a layer of visco-elastic memory foam eliminates the issues memory foam has with overheating. The breathable mesh side panel is also located around this area to help any excess heat easily escape the pillow. Each part of this layer is anti-allergenic, this includes the microfibre layer the nanotubes are encased in.

4. Comfort Fill Layer

The final layer is the comfort fill layer, this is a soft filled layer designed to increase the general comfort of the pillow. It helps create a balance between support from the memory foam and comfort for an overall medium feel. It is also hypoallergenic.

Comfort, Support and Sleep Quality

Simba has tried to develop this pillow so it has an ideal balance between support and comfort. The result is a medium feel. The firmness can be altered with the addition and removal of nanotubes, however.

When sleeping on the Simba Hybrid pillow, there is a slightly different feel when compared to more traditional memory foam mattresses. You still get the contouring, moulding effect from the memory foam but it provides a greater contouring feeling. Almost as though the pillow is going around the head. This gives more of a sinking feeling compared to normal memory foam. It feels great if you prefer a softer feel.

As we usually mention, sleeping position plays a massive part in our pillows requirements. The Simba Hybrid is marketed towards all sleeping positions and the ability to add or remove nanotubes allows it to meet this. Adding more nanotubes will increase the height and firmness of the pillow. This will suit mainly back or side sleepers as they require more of a gap between the neck and shoulders to maintain healthy spinal alignment. Front sleepers, on the other hand, require a much softer, lower pillow. Removing nanotubes will make sure that the pillow meets these requirements and is both comfortable and supportive for front sleepers. Whatever your sleeping position, the Simba Hybrid pillow will allow you to sleep in a healthy, more natural position.

If the pillow is adjusted to the right height then the pressure relief and support needed for ache-free sleep are more than enough. Not only this but it proves extremely comfortable at the same time.

The Simba Hybrid pillow has many features to prevent heat from building up inside the pillow. As a result, you shouldn’t have any issues with overheating, leading to sweating, when using this pillow.

Trial and Guarantee

If you are not completely happy with the Simba Hybrid pillow then it can be returned within the first two weeks of purchase. Simba is confident that the product will be both liked and last. That should be expected with the quality of materials used and the price of the pillow.

The Simba Hybrid pillow comes with a 3 year warranty period, this protects you against manufacturing faults. If anything does go wrong with the pillow then you can get it replaced relatively easily. With regular maintenance and cleaning, it should be expected to last longer than this anyway.

Delivery

Free delivery is available from both Amazon and directs through Simba. Delivery is estimated to take between 3-5 working days normally. There is also the option of a premium delivery but this comes with an extra charge. If you have any queries or questions regarding this, Simba has a helpful support team that is helpful and effective. This also applies for any returns or issues you may have during the ordering process.

This pillow is also available from several large retailers. Delivery from these will vary depending on each retailer’s policies.

Manufactured within the UK, each pillow is delivered in a carton box. When first received it may have a gassy smell. This is completely normal with memory foam products and the pillow should be aired as much as possible to help it dissipate. After a few days, the smell should have completely gone.

Our Verdict

The innovative design of the Simba Hybrid makes it a unique pillow that makes it tricky to compare to other pillows. Being able to alter the feel of the pillow makes it suitable for the vast majority of people and saves you from looking at dozens of different pillows. It may take a few nights of testing to get right. Once you find a setup that suits you then it provides an excellent balance between support, pressure relief and comfort.

Getting a two week returns period and a three-year warranty is a great show of product confidence from Simba. This along with a helpful support team adds to the product buying experience.

With an excellent level of breathability, it shines at keeping cool as you sleep. This along with the unique feeling and support it gives make it a great pillow. It feels somewhere between memory foam and microfibre pillow which will appeal to people who find a standard memory foam pillow too firm.

One of the standout features of this pillow is the ability to change the height by changing the number of nanotubes inside. It is easily done and makes a big difference in the feel of the pillow.

One noticeable downside of this pillow is that it is not fully washable. This makes it much more difficult to keep clean, especially if you are frequently removing or adding nanotubes. Another is the price. With an innovative product comes a larger price and in terms of pillows this is at the top end, this alone will be enough to put some people off.

To conclude, the Simba Hybrid pillow will be an excellent choice for several people. Especially if you are looking for the following:

  • A well-made pillow making use of innovative technology.
  • A well-reviewed pillow from a highly rated company.
  • A pillow that can be adjusted to suit you the best.
  • A highly breathable pillow that keeps cool.
