One of the bigger market leaders in the mattress in a box market is the Simba. They produce a range of different mattresses and bedding items such as mattress protectors and pillows. We are big fans of the Simba Hybrid option. This mattress is made from a combination of memory foam and pocket springs. Made with 5 materials to provide a great balance between comfort and support. There are very few mattresses that provide this premium level of comfort and support for the price. The mattress is also available for testing at several retailers including John Lewis if you prefer to test your mattress in person first. The mattress is easy to open and even comes with a specialised tool to easily open the packaging. Their offerings of bed linen, pillows and duvets mean you can complete your entire bed much easier with just one shop.

Construction and Materials

The hybrid model from Simba is a big upgrade from their original offering. The combination of a memory foam outer layer mixed with a layer of pocket springs provides a medium-firm mattress that is comfortable yet provides the sleeper with a great level of support. Featuring 2500 pocket springs the mattress is designed to improve your quality of sleep no matter how you sleep. Simba has claimed that the mattress is designed using the data of 10 million people sleeping and so claims to suit you regardless of your sleeping requirements. One of the added benefits of this mattress is that it did not come with the common chemical smell that is common with memory foam mattresses.

Simba hybrid layers

The first layer of the Simba Hybrid is a hypoallergenic cover. This layer also helps control body temperature through increased airflow. It can also be easily removed and is machine washable at 40 degrees.

1. Simbatex Foam Layer

The second layer or first foam layer is a 2.5cm thick layer of Simbatex foam. The Simbatex foam is an open-cell and created to help prevent overheating while you are sleeping. This is also designed to provide comfort and relieve pressure from your joints.

2. Pocket Spring Layer

The third layer of the Simba Hybrid mattress is the pocket spring layer. This is a 25mm layer which consists of 2500 cone pocket springs. These adjust to your sleeping position and weight, helping reduce motion transfer across the mattress while still providing support to your body.

3. Support Memory Foam Layer

Under the pocket spring layer of the Simba Hybrid mattress is a 4.5cm layer of support memory foam. This further helps the mattress mould to your body and support your spine.

4. ‘Seventh Heaven’ Foam Layer

The final base foam layer is 16cm of ‘Seventh Heaven’ foam. This increases airflow while providing zoned support across the mattress through seven different areas.

Comfort, Support and Sleep Quality

The firmness rating of this mattress averages out at 6/10 giving it a medium-firm rating. This also results in the mattress suiting people with an average or above-average body weight. This mattress is ideal for sleepers that are side and back sleepers, helping reduce any hip or back pain you may have while sleeping in these positions. Stomach sleepers may also be comfortable with this bed but some may find the support and comfort lacking.

The mattress seems to be very robust and reviewers have claimed that it should last for a very long time. Sleepers also do not seem to be bothered by their partners moving around during the night, this is because of the zoned base the mattress has to respond to each sleeper. This is also caused by the materials within the mattress having minimal movement transfer.

The pocket springs are not the typical style found in a regular pocket spring mattress. They are much smaller than what is normally found in mattresses and this results in the mattress being on the firmer side but still providing a level of comfort and bounce that can be expected from medium mattresses.

Another benefit of this is that it provides the same level of comfort from edge to edge allowing you to sleep as you like. The mattress cover is a hypoallergenic sleep surface and designed to maximise airflow to help regulate body temperature. If you tend to overheat during the night then this mattress could be great for you. Most reviews of the mattress have shown that this is very effective in keeping a comfortable temperature throughout the night even in varying sleeping conditions as well. The mattress cover also has a hidden zip so you can remove it for easy washing.

Our Verdict

Out of the thousands of reviews posted about this mattress, the majority (over 95%) are positive. The few negative reviews state that they have experienced dipping or sagging in certain areas of the mattress. If this does happen you can easily take advantage of the 10-year guarantee.

We believe the Simba Hybrid is a great premium mattress option at a very affordable price. The sleep trial and 10-year limited guarantee are great for providing peace of mind and easing any worries that might be present from ordering a mattress online. Visually the Simba Hybrid is a very sleek modern design and will make a great fit in any bedroom. Reviews are very positive and speak very highly of the comfort and support the mattress gives with very few downsides. Choosing this mattress is likely to give you a great night’s sleep. The mattress can be bought directly from Simba or through its many other retailers such as John Lewis or Amazon. Our only issue with the mattress is that it does not come with handles to help move the mattress around. This is not a problem on arrival as the vacuum-packed box can be placed in the room of your choice and so a minimal amount of movement is required to get it into position on your bed base. This can be a great option for lots of different sleepers.
