The Dreamcloud mattress is developed by the massive US company Resident House. They are also known for mattresses such as the Nectar. Recently expanding into the UK with their products. The DreamCloud Hybrid is very popular in the US and now judging by the recent reviews it is going down well here as well.

The mattress is a hybrid mix of memory foam and pocket springs attempting to get the best out of both. This combination is very popular, although usually on the more expensive side. It seems as though DreamCloud is offering good value for money while still delivering a product made from high-quality materials as Resident House are known for.

They regularly update and improve this product with each one being more successful than the last. It is a very positive sign towards the company’s faith and dedication to making this mattress succeed.

With the Nectar mattress reviewing well we thought the DreamCloud could not be ignored. We have broken down the mattress to see what each layer adds and analysed what it is like to sleep like.

Construction and Materials

The colour scheme of the Dreamcloud Hybrid is clean and gives it a great look. The top of the mattress cover is a clean, modern design which is white. The sides of the mattress are brown. The design is very neutral and if uncovered will fit in most bedrooms. The stitching around the edges makes it look very stylish. This big mattress has the look of a more traditional pocket spring mattress instead of a bed in a box, very impressive.

Including the cover, the Dreamcloud Hybrid has a total of five layers that make it up. We have broken down each of the five layers to identify what they add to the mattress:

1. Quilted Cover Layer

A top quality mattress needs a top quality cover. This one is up there, the premium, the quilted cover is an eyecatcher. Dreamcloud has designed this mattress to have good cooling properties, using phase-change materials it is very breathable. Helping you stay cool throughout the night.

The side handles are very useful to help move the mattress as it is very heavy. While very high quality there is no mention by Dreamcloud that the cover is removable, this makes cleaning it much harder.

2. DreamPlush Memory Foam Layer

Dreamcloud uses CertiPUR foam within this mattress. This is certified to be made without heavy metals and emit low levels of emissions which would affect air quality. The DreamPlush memory foam used within this mattress gives the mattress a moulding, supportive feel.

The foam reacts slowly as you lie on it but shapes your body in good time to be very comfortable. The contouring effects of this layer allow your key joints to be well supported.

Dreamcloud claims that the same foam used in this mattress is typically found in mattresses that are three times the cost of the Dreamcloud Hybrid.

3. Transitional Foam Layer

The third layer is a transitional foam layer between the memory foam and spring layers. This is a firmer foam which provides support. It does this by reacting much quicker than the memory foam. Allowing for a comfortable sleeping position even before the memory foam has moulded around the body. This is especially useful for combination sleepers who frequently change sleeping positions throughout the night. This layer also adds to the mattresses motion isolation. Reducing motion transfer across the mattress.

4. ActivEdge™ Pocketed Coil Layer

Springs are added to a hybrid mattress to provide the majority of the support. The Dreamcloud Hybrid contains full-sized pocket springs. They also use ActivEdge technology which goes across the entire width of the mattress. This gives the mattress great edge support and allows you to make use of the full mattress. The full-sized pocket springs work individually and with the body to provide support to the areas which need it the most. Allowing for pressure point relief to the major joints but also minimal motion transfer across the mattress.

5. Support Foam Layer

The final layer is a support foam layer, this is a firm surface in which each layer sits upon. This needs to be very firm as it is a foundation for the mattress and helps it keep its shape. It also protects the springs above.

Comfort, Support and Sleep Quality

The firmness of this mattress is designed to suit as many people as possible. As a result, this mattress is rated as a medium-firm. On a 1-10 scale, it would rate at around 6-7.

If you believe you are suited to a firm mattress then this may not be for you. The spring layer in this mattress gives it a nice bounce, but that does take away from the firmness. Additionally, the top layers are quite soft, it is only the bottom layers that balance it out and give this mattress a medium-firm rating. Generally, sleeping on this mattress does have a hybrid feel. It has a soft moulding touch like memory foam but once on the mattress, the benefits of the pocket springs are felt.

Do not be put off if you are not a fan of memory foam. This mattress only has a slight memory foam feel and has a much different sleeping experience.

The high-quality materials used within the construction give this mattress a great balance of support and quality. The soft foam top layers give the Dreamcloud Hybrid a great contouring/moulding effect. The bottom layers, on the other hand, provide a great amount of support to the key joints and help maintain good spine alignment.

Everyone’s sleeping needs are different and the sleeping position has a big effect on what you require from a mattress. As a result, we have broken down what this mattress is like to sleep on from each sleeping position.

Back sleepers need some support to your shoulders and hips. This sleeping position generally suits a medium or firm mattress. Sleeping on this mattress should be a great fit for the majority of back sleepers. When sleeping in this position there is a decent sink into the moulding top layer but the spring layers stand out and the shoulders and hips still feel well supported. This mattress stands out in this position and the benefits from each layer are felt.

Side sleepers generally need a slightly softer mattress, this allows the hips to sink to a point where the spine is nicely aligned. The top layers of foam do allow this in the Dreamcloud Hybrid. The support from the lower layers is exactly what is needed. This mattress probably shines the most for people who mainly sleep on their side.

Stomach sleepers require a lot of support to the hips and shoulders. If they do not have enough then these areas can dip down too much creating an unhealthy spine alignment. This mattress is right on the edge of the support they are looking for. If you are a larger person then you may find that you dip down too much. If this is the case then a firmer mattress would be better for you.

It is clear in the construction of the Dreamcloud Hybrid that cooling technology was a priority. The cover is very breathable and helps airflow in and out of the mattress. In addition to this, the gel-infused foam helps get rid of excess heat, keeping you sleeping at a comfortable temperature. Finally, the addition of a spring layer greatly increases the space for airflow within a mattress.

The motion isolation is very good in this mattress. A spring layer would usually add a bounce that will increase the disturbance across the mattress. The foam layers do a very good job of cancelling

Despite the softer foam layers in this mattress, edge support is still very good. This is particularly impressive given it is not a firm mattress. This allows you to make full use of the mattress without feeling as though you are going to fall off.

Trial and Guarantee

A trial is usually expected with a bed in a box mattress, usually averaging 100-nights. The Dreamcloud Hybrid comes with a full 1-year trial, however. With most places recommending that you try out your mattress for at least a month before deciding on it. The 1-year trial gives you more than enough time to make your decision and gives extra peace of mind. If during this time you decide that this mattress is not for you then returning is a simple process. Dreamcloud will pick up the mattress free of charge and refund your full amount.

In a similar vote of confidence in the product, Dreamcloud offers a ‘forever’ warranty with this mattress. This means that if the mattress is faulty or has damage that is deemed to be caused through normal use then they will replace the mattress. This cover is for as long as you own the mattress. This is a big step for this industry and shows the ultimate confidence that Dreamcloud has in the craftsmanship and materials in this mattress. It is almost unmatched and gains top marks in this section.

Delivery

Delivery for the Dreamcloud Hybrid is free of charge. This is especially impressive as it is delivered by a 2-man delivery team who will take the mattress into a room of your choice. Useful if you would normally need a helping hand when moving a mattress. When ordering the mattress you will be assigned a delivery slot of 3-hours for the delivery date, helping you plan your day around it.

Once delivered you will have to remove it from its packaging, this is a small box of which the mattress has been placed inside and it has also been rolled up and vacuum packaged. This makes it much easier for the mattress to be delivered and put in a room of your choice, allowing the cost savings to be transferred to the customer.

If you require an old mattress to be removed it is an additional £35 fee. It may be worth looking elsewhere for this though as this is organised by a separate company which may be on a different date. Many councils offer a bulky waste collection service which will pick up old mattresses. Some even offer this for free.

An option of white glove delivery is also available, this includes set up of the mattress and the disposal of the mattress. While the setup is not the most difficult of tasks, the mattress is very heavy and so it may make it worth paying for setup for some people.

Our Verdict

As a mattress, the Dreamcloud Hybrid is a great addition to the market. The top quality materials and construction makes for a fantastic combination of comfort and support.

The Dreamcloud Hybrid has great cooling properties to help keep you at a comfortable temperature and prevent overheating. Despite being a thick mattress you can feel the benefits of each layer. The layers of foam provide a great level of comfort and have contouring effects which will mould around you. The springs offset the memory foam, giving the mattress a real hybrid feel. If you do not like memory foam mattresses then do not let the foam layers put you off. It retains all of the benefits of memory foam while not quite giving the full memory foam feeling.

The springs provide support to the key pressure points of your body and allow you to maintain good spinal alignment while being well supported.

The thickness and weight of this mattress show as it’s removed from the box. It gives a feeling of quality and value for money. It is around 4cm thicker than the average mattress but normal sheets should still fit without a problem.

The firmness of this mattress is slightly softer than similar mattresses like this. This may result in too much sinkage for some people. Larger people may struggle to get the support they need, especially if sleeping on the stomach. The vast majority of people will be supported in all positions however and will be able to enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep while feeling well supported.

When buying the Dreamcloud Hybrid, the free delivery and returns are a great touch. Paired with the sleep trial and warranty, the customer experience is massively improved. It shows product confidence when offering so much and adds a lot of value to the mattress. There are very few companies that offer similar or even close to this and so is an often-overlooked side of buying a mattress.

As we conclude this review, the Dreamcloud Hybrid mattress will have many great features that make it an attractive mattress to buy, it will be a great fit if you are looking for the following:

  • A mattress that is a well-designed hybrid but retains the comfort of memory foam.
  • A mattress which has an excellent trial and guarantee period.
  • A mattress that is designed to suit most sleeping positions.
  • A mattress that suits people of all sizes, especially bigger.
